In the spring of 2022, the SMK (National Gallery of Denmark) will host Haegue Yang: Double Soul, the first solo presentation by the internationally acclaimed South Korean artist Haegue Yang in Denmark. Yang’s practice spans a wide range of media, from paper collage to performative sculpture and large-scale installations, which often feature everyday objects, in addition to labor-intensive woven sculptures. During this talk, Yang will discuss her varied practice and give insights into her upcoming exhibition in Copenhagen.
Haegue Yang (b. 1971, Seoul) lives and works in Berlin and Seoul. Yang has participated in major international exhibitions including the 16th Istanbul Biennial (2019), the 21st Biennale of Sydney (2018), the 12th Sharjah Biennial (2015), dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel, (2012) and the 53rd Venice Biennale (2009). She is also a Professor at her alma mater, the Staedelschule in Frankfurt am Main.
Selected recent solo projects include exhibitions at Tate St Ives (Strange Attractors, 2020); Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto (Emergence, 2020); National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (O2 & H2O, 2020); Museum of Modern Art (Handles, 2019), New York; and her first European survey show presented by Museum Ludwig, Cologne (ETA 1994–2018, 2018). In 2018 Yang was awarded the Wolfgang Hahn prize.
