During this seminar, we will inquire into the notion of artistic knowledge and what it may mean to develop a sustainable artistic practice. The aim of the seminar is to look beyond the immediate artwork or project one is working on. Instead, we will take a step back and reflect upon our practices at large by asking questions such as:
What is artistic knowledge? Where does it sit in relation to larger frames of knowledge?
How do I acquire insights and meaning as an artist?
How am I situated in time and space?
What are my necessities, motivations, commitments?
How does this relate to larger contexts, discourses, histories?
How does this inform my artistic approach and my approach to research and theory?
The seminar departs from the notion that there are many art worlds and that each of us has a unique voice and point of departure.
The intention is to have a deeper reflection upon artistic practice at large and the potentiality of artistic knowledge while considering what steps one can take to develop a sustainable artistic practice.
